Time to bring back a fan-favourite post, “What To Do In K/W”, or “Kitchener/Waterloo” and the surrounding area. Feel free to contact me at email@example.com for any events you might be aware of or any comments you have, and I’ll include them in a future post!
Sept. 23: Cineplex Kitchener Cinemas and VIP
Rising from the ashes of the old Kitchener-Waterloo Record building next to Best Buy on Fairway Road, the new Cineplex Kitchener Cinemas and VIP will finally be open! There will be 11 screens: 7 will be traditional auditoriums (one will be an UltraAVX theatre featuring a wall-to-wall screen and reserved, upgraded seating) and 4 will be licensed, adults-only VIP auditoriums featuring at-your-seat menus! Pricing for the first week is shown below:
|Format||General (14-64)||Child (3-13)||Senior (65+)||VIP 19+|
The inaugural movies playing are “Bridget Jones’ Baby”, “Snowden”, “Sully”, “The Magnificent Seven” (the first three movies have the “VIP” or regular options while “Seven” has the “VIP” or “UltraAVX” options), “Storks”, “The Wild Life”, and “The Blair Witch”.
The Cineplex Kitchener Cinemas and VIP are located at 225 Fairway Road South in Kitchener.
Sept. 23: PD Day
If you have children in school, chances are they have been looking forward to September 23 ever since they started classes this year! Why? It’s the first PD day of the school year! The forecast is currently calling for a 40% chance of rain, so you might want to think of some indoor activities in case the weatherman got it right!
Sept. 24: Grate Cheese Fest, Guelph
The 2nd annual Grate Cheese Fest will showcase a variety of gourmet food exhibitors showcasing their brilliant, cheesy creations. My guess is there will not be a jar of Cheez Whiz to be had anywhere, cuz we’re talking upscale! Attendees will enjoy signature dishes, divine wines, fresh baked goods, craft beer, live entertainment, great door prizes and a lot more!
The Grate Cheese Fest takes place at the Hanlon Convention Centre, 340 Woodlawn Road West, Guelph N1H 7K6 (the plaza right at the corner of Woodlawn and the Hanlon Expressway. It runs from 11 AM to 10 PM on Saturday, and admission is $5 ($4 if you purchase online), kids 12 and under are free. Cheese samples can be had by buying cheese tokens in bundles of 10 for $10. The average sample will cost 1 to 2 tokens. Do not bring any Velveeta with you…you will be checked at the door. Just kidding.
